We’re excited to announce the partnership with Macromedia University of Applied Sciences to support the modernization of their international admissions process. Through the VTest Custom Platform, VTest has developed more than 30 program-specific digital admissions assessments, featuring secure online proctoring and a combination of automated and human scoring.

Language Testing for a Digital World
Macromedia University and Burlington English have joined forces to overhaul how international applicants demonstrate their language proficiency. At the core of this initiative is a fully digital testing ecosystem designed to evaluate language skills. Language proficiency alone does not guarantee academic success - students must also be able to think critically, interpret information, and respond effectively in an academic context.
Tailored Assessments for Academic Success
One of the standout features of this collaboration is the development of more than 20 customized admission assessments. These tests are specifically aligned with Macromedia’s degree programs and academic standards, ensuring that applicants are evaluated in ways that directly reflect the skills they will need in their studies.
Offered in both German and English, these assessments provide flexibility for applicants while maintaining a consistent standard of evaluation. This tailored approach represents a program-specific assessment.
The Power Behind the VTest Custom Platform
The Burlington VTest Custom Platform is an advanced, intuitive system designed to streamline the entire assessment process. The platform stands out for its flexibility and scalability. It allows institutions to administer and grade exams within a smart, centralised environment, making it suitable not only for universities but also for certification bodies and corporate training providers. As Burlington VTest is the exclusive brand for Burlington English’s assessment activities, it reflects a focused commitment to innovation in testing and certification.
Key features of the platform include:
Automated scoring for multiple-choice questions, ensuring speed and consistency.
Secure external grading tools that enable faculty to assess open-ended responses with precision.
Robust proctoring technology to maintain exam integrity and provide detailed security feedback to admissions, teachers and/or proctors.
Centralized administration platform that allow admissions teams to upload and organize their students, assign, monitor, and analyze assessments across applicant cohorts.
Together, these capabilities create a seamless and reliable testing experience for both institutions and applicants.
Expanding Access with CEFR-Aligned Testing with VTest General English
Another important aspect of the partnership is the introduction of Burlington VTest General English. This offering provides a cost-effective, CEFR-compliant alternative for certifying English language proficiency.
By aligning with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the test ensures internationally recognized standards while also reducing financial and logistical barriers for students. This is particularly valuable for applicants from regions where access to traditional testing centers may be limited.
Looking Ahead
This partnership reflects a broader trend in education: the move toward smarter, more adaptive, and more inclusive assessment systems. As digital transformation continues to reshape higher education, initiatives like this one set a new benchmark for how institutions can balance academic rigor with accessibility and innovation.
For international students, the message is encouraging. The future of language testing is not just about proving proficiency - it’s about creating opportunities, reducing barriers, and ensuring that every student has the tools they need to succeed from day one.
